Dewayne Wise fools umpire in Yankees’ win
As Dewayne Wise flew into the fans at the stands trying to catch a foul ball he heard the umpire call it an out and only one thing came to his mind: keep his glove closed.
He ran straight into the dugout and even tapped Derek Jeter, who incidentally was celebrating his birthday that day, as the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 6-4 on Tuesday night.
As the replays in slow motion would show, wise was not able to catch the ball as it fell off his hand but since replays are not allowed in Major League Baseball, the call of the umpire stood. Phil Hughes threw his hands into the air thinking that Wise helped him preserve his shutout.
Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez hit a long home run for the Yankees who scored five of their point without a single home run.
Curtis Granderson had two runs while Chris Stewart added an RBI.
The Cleveland Lake Shores was a member of the American League in 1900 when the AL was still a minor league. In 1901 they were renamed the Cleveland Bluebird and became a charter franchise of the AL when they turned professional. The present name Cleveland Indians was adopted in 1914.
As a member of the American League's Central Division, the main rivals of the Cleveland Indians were the Cincinnati Reds. Known as the Ohio Cup, it was usually played a few days before baseball season. It stopped when interleague play was introduced. However, the Indians-Reds rivalry remains to this day, and is exciting as ever. Get your cheap Cleveland Indians tickets from this site now.
