Texas Rangers Highlights
Athletics stun Rangers, win AL West title
The Oakland Athletics won the AL West Division Title in what was an improbable run against the Texas Rangers, coming from four runs down to eventually defeat the two-time league champion 12-5 on Wednesday.
This win capped off the Athletics’ storied season rally where they fought through a 13-game division deficit that culminated in this win against the two-time champions for the AL West Title. Oakland needed to have a sweep and they delivered, coming off a five-game deficit in the final nine days in the regular season. This is their 15th division title and the first division title in six years.
The A’s pulled off another great performance in a season that was filled with thrilling walkoffs, rallies, and whipped-cream pie celebrations from a team that wasn’t even supposed to be in this position with all the odds against them.
Amazing that general manager Billy Beane was able to find ways to get his blue-collar team into the playoffs for the first time since they were swept by the Detroit Tigers in the 2006 AL championship series.
Kevin Youkilis makes his presence felt
Playing his second game for Chicago, Kevin Youkilis is indeed making his presence felt in the White Sox lineup with his untiring and patient approach at the plate.
Youkilis gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 win against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night off a game-ending RBI single n the bottom of the 10th inning. Working back on a 0-2 count, Youkilis ended the game by scoring De Aza prompting the crowd to shout “Youuukk!!”
Youkilis was acquired in a trade from the Boston Red Sox on last June 24.
In just two games with Chicago, Youkilis is becoming as popular as he was back in Boston. For his first game with the White Sox on Tuesday, he went 3 for 6 with a home run and four RBIs in their 19-2 rout of the Rangers.
Chicago has won six of its last eight games as Josh Hamilton hammered home for the Rangers, who have won their previous seven series.
Cruz was given the go by Texas manager Ron Washington on 3-0 and then, using a Louisville Slugger model R-13 that weighs 34 ounces and measures 35 inches, he batted the ball home that reached the championship flag poles in left-center. Early estimates say that this is the longest home run this season in the majors.
The win ended a four-game losing skid by the Rangers, the two-time defending AL champions who are leading the Angels by 4 1/2 games in the West. They will still meet for 13 times in the regular season.
Matt Harrison gave up three runs, four hits, and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Mike Trout gave Alexi Ogando and RBI single as Alberto Callaspo walked, loading the bases for Albert Pujols. Texas put it away in the ninth with RBI singles from Mike Napoli and Elvis Andrus.
Orioles stunned with four home-runs
Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers just couldn’t believe his luck when he hit three home-runs by the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles. He didn’t know that he was still about to make a fourth home-run and earn his first career four-home-run game on Tuesday night.
Hamilton’s four home-runs for the Rangers are all two-run shots, lifting them past the Orioles 10-3.
Tuesday night’s game is the 16th time in major league history that a four-home-run game was played. The last person to bat a four-home-run game was Carlos Delgado on Sept. 25, 2003 for Toronto. Hamilton is the sixth American League player to earn the honor.
Josh Hamilton’s storied career was not all fun. Drafted in the first round of the 1999 draft by Tampa Bay, he left baseball because of drug and alcohol addiction. After undergoing rehabilitation and recovering he returned to the major league in 2007 and became the 2010 AL MVP while still battling his addiction.
The eight-RBI game is a career high for the outfielder and the 18 total bases broke the club record last set in 1994.
Yu Darvish Gets His First MLB Win
Yu Darvish and his first major league start is in the books. Despite a rough start, the much-hyped Japanese pitching sensation pulled through and earned himself a win against the Seattle Mariners. It was an impressive win in the sense that Darvish was able to overcome his gitters and play the game through. Of course Darvish has plenty of offensive help from his teammates. Time will tell whether or not he can handle the big leagues in America.
The first inning for Yu Darvish seemed to be all but a disaster. Giving up 42 pitches and 4 runs, it seemed like Darvish’s day would come to an end early. However, Darvish was able to pitch through to the end without giving up anymore runs.
Some help come from a handful homeruns by Nelson Cruz, Mitch Moreland and Josh Hamilton, which must have eased some nerves in Darvish.
The Texas Rangers look to the 2012 MLB season as the favorites to repeat as the American League Champions. They came a game away in the World Series the previous year from winning it all. With many of the same players back, the 2012 Texas Ranger games look to be great games to go watch.
Texas Rangers 2012 Outlook
The Texas Rangers got their name from the legendary law-enforcement agency of the same name. The Rangers franchise began in 1961 as the expansion Washington Senators team; they moved to Texas in 1971 and formally became known as the Rangers. The Texas Rangers are a member of the American League's West Division since 1972.
Perhaps an up and coming rivalry is that of the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. Even if they belong to different leagues, the main selling point here is they are from the same state.
